Classrooms of 4-5 it was fine, labs of 30 it was tedious. This made updates and plug-in changes cumbersome as each machine needed thawed, rebooted, changes applied, and then frozen and rebooted again. It was treated more like standalone installs and we avoided most changes throughout the school year. At the time the admin console was running on server in-house and it wasn't that great. I'm just wondering what I'll actually need.Īt the school we had a paid license, but we had a few hundred machines using it. Did you just use the free version? Did you notice any limitations? I would love if we didn't have to pay for anything. Any insight or other options are welcome. After getting quotes Reboot Restore is less expensive but we need a dedicated device, while Deep Freeze is more expensive but is truly web-based with apparently more options. I'm currently looking at either Deep Freeze or Reboot Restore Rx and I'd like to hear your advice and experiences. I have things locked down with an admin password and all but students seem to be able to find some small thing I didn't disable and then I have to revisit every computer. I don't want kids about to fiddle with settings and such. Secondarily, I'd like to be able to manage (particularly testing browser) updates, if possible. Primarily, I'd like to limit student access to a web browser and a few testing browsers. I was originally looking to set up a DC and all of that (we currently have none), but I realized that this would be overkill given the limited scope of what we're looking to do. We are looking to "lock down" our students' testing computers. I work IT for a medium sized charter school.
